This week at Maggie Lou’s school they celebrated Uniting Nations Week. The highlights included the Parade of Nations and an International Food Fair. The parade was AMAZING – it was heartwarming and inspiring to see the different dress, hear the different music and witness the hundreds of adorable smiles from the very diverse student body. Jack enjoyed seeing the various flags, Michael enjoyed hearing Stompin’ Tom Connors and I enjoyed seeing Maggie Lou in her red, white and blue.

The Food Fair was organized chaos – there were probably a few tons of food on hand – shocking that the desserts from each country seemed to go faster than the traditional snacks and main courses. The American table did a Thanksgiving Theme — turkey with all the trimmings, apple and pumpkin pie and of course, hot dogs and cupcakes. We brought the potatoes (Flagging down a taxi in 95 degree heat while carrying 10 pounds of mashed potatoes is an experience I won’t soon forget! ) and were on hand to help pass out food. Jack was happy to be surrounded by diverse treats – and was a great helper to team USA. Malaysia with their rose flavored ice pops and Belgium with their chocolate mousse seemed to be favorites among the students.
