We are so grateful to be here during the Chinese New Year. The decorations, the food, the jovial atmosphere have made it quite the scene. While we’ve learned about some of the customs, we are still just figuring others out. Enjoy!

god of Good Fortune – at the Promenade, decorated and lit up with all sorts of CNY symbols and decorations

Ang Bao — “red packets” full of money (denominations of equal numbers are thought to be more lucky – the number 4 is avoided by some because of the sound it makes – the number 8 is thought to be lucky because of the sound it makes). This ang bao had $8sg in it! Thank you Liberty Mutual.

Lion Dance at our apartment – sizing up the offering of greens and mandarin oranges.

The lion cleverly arranges the fruit in a symbol of good luck for the new year.

Prosperity Toss: Tradition that involves playing with your food! Mixing shredded veggies, sauces and raw fish together by way of “throwing” the food up high with chopsticks. The higher the food goes, the greater prosperity you will have in the coming year!

Maggie Lou got right in on the action.

Meanwhile, Jack was into the CNY goodies — gummies, cakes and lots of specialty, symbolic sweets.

Later that day we had our own lion dance!
Looks like the CNY was lots of fun….. Love those sunglasses Maggie Lou….
